The horse and the chariot were introduced into Egypt moderately late in its history, about 1500 BC. Chariots used to lead two horses, and they were used not only in fighting but also for ceremonies and hunting.Horses were raised in Egypt, and their rarity and novelty meant that they were a status symbol, owned only by rich and powerful people. They were given comprehensive care and personal names, grand stables and the best food. This particular specimen has Serapis on the back of the horse.
